Rain or Shine Elasto Painters manhandle Blackwater Elite
Rain or Shine gets the win but falls short of a top 4 spot after TNT defeated Ginebra.

MANILA, Philippines – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters delivered a 122-98 manhandling of the Blackwater Elite in the penultimate day of the elimination round of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Big Dome Saturday, September 23.

Rain or Shine, which held a slim 57-56 lead after the first half, pulled away in the third quarter as it outscored Blackwater, 32-21, behind J’Nathan Bullock and Ed Daquioag who combined for 20 points.

The Elasto Painters went on a 13-6 run, built on 3 consecutive treys, for a 103-93 lead.

“Everybody who came in the game stepped up. Basically I just told them we have a chance for the top 4 and the only way we get the chance is to win today’s game. The first half, we were okay offensively but our defense wasn’t there. The second half I think we picked up and from there we had a good lead,” said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia.

Bullock chalked up a game-high 30 points on top of 8 rebounds to pace Rain or Shine which had 5 of its locals scoring in double figures.

Raymond Almazan chipped in 20 markers while Gabe Norwood added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Blackwater, which ended the elimination round with a 5-6 card, shot 49 percent from the field in the first half to keep things interesting but could not duplicate its efficiency as it buried only 15 of its 50 second half shots.

Allein Maliksi carried the offensive load for the Elite with 29 points and 8 boards while Henry Walker contributed 21 points, 15 boards and 5 assists.

The Elasto Painters improved to 7-4.
