Rice Jr fined $10,000 by TNT before leaving country
Glen Rice Jr violates his contract following his ejection in TNT’s season-ending loss to Ginebra

MANILA, Philippines – Things still have not gotten better for former TNT KaTropa import Glen Rice Jr as he was slapped a $10,000 (P514,000*) fine by his own team before leaving the country.

According to a Spin.ph report, TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio said in a statement that Rice Jr violated his contract following his ejection in TNT’s season-ending loss to Ginebra in Game 4 of the Governors’ Cup semis last Sunday.

Rice Jr was off to a great start in Game 4 as he tallied 5 assists, 3 boards, 2 points and a steal before his temper got the best of him.

With only 1:41 left in the first quarter and the KaTropa leading 35-23, the high-scoring import picked up a flagrant 1 after pushing Ginebra’s Kevin Ferrer to the ground. Rice Jr, clearly irate, then threw the ball at Ferrer, earning him a technical foul that ultimately led to his ejection.

Rice Jr’s absence proved too costly for TNT as it ran out of steam in the final quarter, paving way for the Gin Kings to advance to the finals behind import Justin Brownlee who finished with a career-high 46 points.

Before leaving the court, the former Washington Wizards player appeared to be having a heated exchange with TNT alternate governor Pato Gregorio.

Villavicencio said that Rice Jr, who was already fined P26,000 by the PBA for his acts last Monday, failed to abide by his contract which included conducting himself in “gentlemanly manner at all times.”
