MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Greg Slaughter proved that when he is healthy, he is a force to be reckoned with. 

Slaughter was named Best Player of the Conference of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup while Meralco Bolts’ Allen Durham secured his second Best Import award.

The 7-footer from Ateneo de Manila University clinched the award in landslide fashion after finishing with 975 accumulated points, besting Meralco’s Chris Newsome (707 points), San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo (617 points), TNT’s Jayson Castro (440 points) and Beermen’s Arwind Santos (371 points).

Slaughter placed second in statistics (393 points) behind reigning three-time MVP Fajardo (463 points) but dominated the votes from media people with 412 of the total 742 points. He also received 150 of the total 250 points from the Commissioner’s Office. 

Through 16 games this conference, the former 2014 Rookie of the Year averaged 14.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

Durham, meanwhile, garnered 1219 points after reigning supreme in statistics and on the votes from media people, PBA players and the Commissioner’s Office.

The 29-year-old reinforcement, who won the award last year in the same conference, normed 25.4 points, 20.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.3 blocks through 16 games with the Bolts.

Running at second is rival Justin Brownlee of Ginebra who amassed 834 points while TNT’s Glen Rice Jr and San Miguel’s Terrence Watson earned 574 and 482 points, respectively. – Rappler.com
