MANILA, Philippines – Following their series-tying 85-83 win Friday, October 20, in Game 4 of the Governors’ Cup finals, Meralco Bolts coach cleared the air about his little spat with Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone. 

The two all-time great coaches were at the middle of a heated moment in Game 3 last Wednesday after Black called a timeout with only 38.1 seconds left in the game even though the Bolts were up 94-81. 

Cone was obviously frustrated with the late timeout that he did not join the huddle of his team and kept staring at the Meralco bench until the final buzzer sounded. The PBA’s winningest coach immediately headed to the locker room and did not bother to shake the hands of their opponents. 

But with Cone offering his apologies, everything is good between the two.

“Tim talked to me. He said ‘I’m sorry about what happened last game.’ I think that’s more than enough,” said the former Best Import turned coach.

Black, who was clearly upset by how Cone responded as they exchanged words after Game 3 ended, told the press last Wednesday that he did not need Cone’s help in the way he coaches.

However, in a cooler demeanor, Black admitted he also gets carried away with the heat of the moment.

“I’m a very emotional guy on the court also, I have my moments.” 

“Tim and I have been rivals over the years but we’ve been friendly rivals. We’ve always been friendly with one another, we’ve actually travelled a few times in scouting trips. So let it go already, let’s move on,” Black added. 

Game 5 of the finals will be on Sunday, October 22, at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan. – Rappler.com
