Columbian hands Rain or Shine first conference loss
The Dyip roll on to their 3rd win in 5 games in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup

MANILA, Philippines – The Columbian Dyip redeemed themselves from a bitter 31-point loss with a resounding 104-96 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, May 9.

Columbian, which absorbed a 103-134 beating from the Alaska Aces last May 4, banked on import John Bailey Fields III to collect its 3rd win in 5 games and pin on Rain or Shine its first loss of the conference.

Fields, who played just his second PBA game, submitted team-highs of 34 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists as Elasto Painters remained winless to Columbian this season.

The Dyip defeated Rain or Shine, 98-94, last conference for their lone win in the Philippine Cup.

“That’s a way to bounce back from a really bad loss against Alaska,” said Columbian head coach Ricky Dandan. “We had no choice but to learn from that horrible, horrible loss and this is the result that we got.”

It was not just Fields who impressed against the E-Painters.

Rashawn McCarthy chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists while Jerramy King delivered 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Although the Dyip were outhustled for 13 offensive rebounds by Rain or Shine, it barely showed in the stats sheet. The Elasto Painters scored only 18 second chance points to Columbian’s 15.

Reggie Johnson dropped 30 points and 17 rebounds for Rain or Shine, which slipped to 3-1.

Ed Daquioag had 17 points while Raymond Almazan chalked up 16 points and 14 boards in the loss.
