MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine Elasto Painters staged a 4th-quarter comeback before taking the game in overtime versus the San Miguel Beermen (SMB), 123-119, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday, May 13, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Raymond Almazan lifted Rain or Shine in the extra period, scoring 7 points to help seal the win for the Elasto Painters. 

Rain or Shine improved to 3-1 while San Miguel Beer remained winless in two outings.

Reggie Johnson recorded a double-double of 27 points and 19 rebounds, while Almazan also dropped 25 points and grabbed 14 boards to power the Painters.

Arwind Santos led SMB with 29 points before fouling out in the last 45 seconds of the game. June Mar Fajardo posted a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds.

The Beermen forced overtime, 112-112, after Alex Cabagnot scored on a layup with 11.4 seconds left in regulation.

Before that, Chris Tiu could have cushioned the Painters lead but sank only one of two free throws in the last 18.4 seconds of regulation.

But the Beermen rallied from a 7-point deficit with a massive 22-2 run capped by Christian Standhardinger’s and-1 play with 5:26 left in the second period.

Rain or Shine managed to cut the lead to 4 points, 45-49, as SMB import Troy Gillenwater got thrown out of the court following a physical contact with a game official. 

San Miguel outscored the Elasto Painters 40-19 in the second quarter for a 63-49 advantage at the break.
