PBA marksmen, rim-rattlers to wow in Batangas All-Star leg
The league gives a twist to the Obstacle Challenge by allowing only big men to participate

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – Expect another PBA spectacle to draw oohs and aahs as pro basketball stars troop to the Batangas City Sports Center here for the Luzon leg of the 2018 All-Star Week on Friday, May 25.

The league’s top marksmen and rim-rattlers will see action in the 3-point Shootout and the Slam Dunk Competition, respectively, while big men from all 12 PBA teams will slug it out in the spiced-up version of the Obstacle Challenge.

These events will serve as appetizer for the All-Star game pitting the Luzon All-Stars helmed by San Miguel head coach Leo Austria and the Gilas Pilipinas side mentored by NLEX Road Warriors tactician Yeng Guiao.

The Luzon natives, headed by starters Japeth Aguilar, Calvin Abueva, LA Tenorio, Paul Lee and Jayson Castro, eye to beat the Nationals just like how the Mindanao All-Stars bested Gilas last Wednesday, May 23.

Three-point king Allein Maliksi, who will play for Gilas, will first try to defend his throne against former champions Terrence Romeo and James Yap.

Also vying for the title are Tenorio, JVee Casio, Stanley Pringle, Ronald Tubid, Garvo Lanete, Larry Fonacier, Matthew Wright, Paul Lee and Marcio Lassiter.

Meanwhile, reigning Slam Dunk champion Chris Newsome will go toe-to-toe against Marion Magat, Renz Palma, Lervin Flores, Jackson Corpuz, Rey Guevarra and Gabe Norwood.

In the Ostable Challenge, 19-year PBA veteran Asi Taulava leads the list of participants that include Sonny Thoss, Raymond Aguilar, JR Erram, Kelly Nabong, Russel Escoto, Ken Bono, Doug Kramer, Aldrech Ramos, Beau Belga, Gabby Espinas and Yousef Taha.

Completing the Luzon lineup are Pringle, Wright, Lassiter, Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos, Ian Sangalang, Raymond Almazan.

Joining Romeo and Maliksi in the Gilas roster are June Mar Fajardo, Carl Bryan Cruz, Mac Belo, Gabe Norwood, Jio Jalalon and Kiefer Ravena.  – Rappler.com
