Alaska thwarts Columbian behind Daniels, Banchero
The Alaska Aces storm back from a near-double-digit deficit to end their 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup debut in the winning column

MANILA, Philippines – Alaska got off to a rousing start in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup after giving Columbian a 111-98 whipping at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, May 19.

Import Chris Daniels and Chris Banchero formed a formidable one-two punch as the Aces stormed back from a near-double-digit deficit and built a lead as large as 20 to notch their first win of the conference.

Daniels torched the Dyip with 25 points on a healthy 11-of-16 shots to go with 16 rebounds, while Banchero came off the bench with aplomb with 20 points.

Columbian was groomed to stun the opposing side that still had star Vic Manuel sidelined after leading 56-48 shortly after halftime, until Alaska unloaded a 34-11 run to enter the final frame up by 15.

The Aces kept their foot on the gas and enjoyed an 89-69 advantage off an MJ Ayaay triple with less than 11 minutes left.

Not going down without a fight, the Dyip managed to inch within 9 points behind import Kyle Barrone, but that was the closest they could get with no time left to complete the comeback.

Simon Enciso finished with 19 points off 5 triples and 8 assists, while Carl Bryan Cruz chipped in 14 points and 4 rebounds in the win.

Kyle Barone atoned for a rough shooting night with 30 points and 22 rebounds, but his effort was not enough to singlehandedly carry Columbian.

CJ Perez had 19 points and 6 rebounds, Rashawn McCarthy chalked up 13 points, 5 assists, and 2 blocks, and JP Calvo added 10 points in the losing effort.
