MANILA, Philippines – Jeron Teng rose to the occasion to help Alaska stop a two-game slide with a 100-87 win over NLEX in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, May 29.

Teng delivered team-highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds to go with 4 assists as the Aces – with 5 other players finishing in twin digits – improved to 2-2 and kept the Road Warriors winless in 3 games. 

Import Chris Daniels shot a horrendous 3-of-15 from the field but still finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks to backstop Teng in the win that saw Alaska control the game from the get-go.

Finishing the maiden period up 22-17, the Aces never relinquished their hold of the upper hand throughout and even swelled their lead to as big as 19 points. 

Chris Banchero also had 17 points for Alaska on top of 5 rebounds and 5 assists, while Javee Casio, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Simon Enciso chipped in 10 points apiece. 

Tony Mitchell played his first game for the Road Warriors as import and chalked up 34 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, but his early foul trouble did not help their cause. 

Hobbled by 5 fouls early in the 3rd quarter, Mitchell only got it going in the final frame where he scored 20 points. 

Poy Erram had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Juami Tiongson and Kenneth Ighalo added 10 points each for NLEX, which did not have head coach Yeng Guiao calling the shots. 

Guiao, according to the team, will miss two more games for a “much-needed rest.”
