Wondering where Yeng Guiao is?
The fiery mentor will miss 3 games for NLEX to take a 'much-needed rest'

MANILA, Philippines – Yeng Guiao surprisingly did not call the shots for NLEX against Alaska in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, and apparently, that is because he is on a short vacation.

Deputy coach Jojo Lastimosa revealed Guiao is on a cruise in Europe with his family after the team announced he will miss 3 games to take a “much-needed rest.”

“It’s a treat from his family to get away from the game a little bit. And to the things that happened to him in the last few weeks, the elections,” said Lastimosa, who took over the coaching role for the Road Warriors.

Guiao had been a busy man for past 12 months, juggling his coaching duties for the Road Warriors and Gilas Pilipinas all the while plotting his congressional campaign in the first district of Pampanga.

While he was successful in leading the Philippines to the FIBA World Cup for the second straight time, Guiao, however, failed to score a victory in his election bid.

“It’s just a good idea for the family and him to get away and forget about basketball for a while,” Lastimosa said.

The Road Warriors, though, still failed to crack the winning column as it absorbed its third straight loss following an 87-100 beating on Wednesday, May 29.

“He (Guiao) told us that when he gets back, we should win all 3 games. But we won’t be able to achieve that target anymore,” Lastimosa said in a mix of Filipino and English.

“We still have our next two games. Somehow, we have to figure out a way how to keep the games close up until the end.”

NLEX can end its skid against winless Columbian at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, June 1. – Rappler.com
