James Yap hoping for best after suffering groin injury
ANTIPOLO, Philippines – James Yap has his fingers crossed that he can quickly recover from the groin injury that abruptly ended his night in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup clash between Rain or Shine and Phoenix.
The two-time PBA MVP scored 15 points but was forced to sit on the bench for almost the entire second half as the Elasto Painters eked out a 93-89 win over the Fuel Masters on Sunday, June 9.
"Biglang sumakit ang groin. 'Di ko na lang pinilit dahil baka mapunit eh. Na-feel ko talaga 'pag pinilit ko pa, mapupunit talaga," Yap told reporters after the game.
(My groin hurt. I didn't want to force it because it might completely tear. I felt that if I forced myself to play further, it would result in a tear.)
"Alam ko 'pag groin, 'pag napunit, masyado matagal kaya 'di ko na lang...nagpa-sub na lang ako. Buti nanalo."
(I believe that when you tear the groin, it takes time to recover so I decided to sub myself out. Fortunately, we won.)
Yap said he already felt tightening in his quads, but did not expect that he would injure his groin.
"Baka naiiwan sa workout eh – 'di ko nawo-workout masyado 'yung groin ko, so kaya baka kailangan i-workout lahat ng part ng legs. 'Yun 'yung sinabi rin ng physical therapist namin at tsaka 'yung trainer. Baka nakalimutan ko."
(The injury was probably because I didn't include the groin in my workout, so I should probably include all parts of the leg in my workout. That's what our physical therapist and trainer said. Maybe I forgot to include it.)
As he takes a rest before having his groin checked on Tuesday, June 11, the 37-year-old hopes for the best.
"Sana rest lang ito, strengthening." (I hope that I only need to rest this and do some strengthening.)
Yap has more than a week to get back in top shape before Rain or Shine (2-2) takes on NorthPort (4-1) on June 19. – Rappler.com
