Streaking Magnolia punishes San Miguel with 36-point romp
MANILA, Philippines – Magnolia maintained its hot streak after humiliating San Miguel in a wire-to-wire 118-82 blowout victory in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, June 26.
With the pain of a Game 7 loss to the Beermen in the Philippine Cup finals last month still not lost, the Hotshots played inspired basketball to extend their winning streak to 4 games after dropping their first two outings.
Import James Farr led 5 Magnolia players in double figures with 19 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Jio Jalalon messed with a triple-double of 16 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds.
But it was Mark Barroca who stole the show in the Hotshots' third-quarter surge as he knocked down 3 three-pointers in the period that gave their side a 71-45 advantage. He finished with 17 points, 9 assists, and 2 steals.
It was all icing on the cake since then as San Miguel got buried by as much as 38 points.
Paul Lee put up 14 points off the bench, while Ian Sangalang chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds in the win.
Charles Rhodes was his usual self with 20 points and 15 rebounds, but the Beermen never recovered from a slow start as they absorbed their fourth loss in 6 games.
This is the second time San Miguel lost by at least 30 points in the tournament after a 33-point drubbing from NorthPort in its conference-opener.
Christian Standhardinger chimed in 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter had 11 points and 3 steals in the loss.
