Elorde, Bolick take over late as NorthPort survives Columbian
MANILA, Philippines – NorthPort bolstered its bid for a twice-to-beat playoff bonus after nosing out Columbian, 110-108, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, July 3.
Nico Elorde buried 3 big three-pointers down the stretch, while Robert Bolick scored the game-winning layup as the Batang Pier survived the upset-minded Dyip to pick up their eighth win in 10 games.
Elorde drained 3 straight triples to give NorthPort a 108-103 lead with two minutes left before Columbian unloaded 5 straight points – capped by a CJ Perez putback – to level the score.
The Dyip were primed to force overtime as Bolick's layup rimmed out but the referees ruled goaltending after import Lester Prosper touched the basket, awarding the Batang Pier back the lead.
Columbian had two seconds to fire either a game-winning or a game-tying shot, but Eric Camson muffed his running jumper.
Mo Tautuaa paced NorthPort with 23 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds, Bolick finished with 21 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals, while Kevin Ferrer came off the bench and contributed 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Elorde scored all of his 14 points in the second half with 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals, while Prince Ibeh dominated the paint on both ends with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocks.
Prosper was his usual self with 36 points and 17 rebounds, but the breaks of the game just did not go the Dyip's way as they fell to 2-7.
CJ Perez delivered 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists, as Rashawn McCarthy had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 steals in the losing effort.
