TNT locks twice-to-beat bonus with romp of Blackwater
MANILA, Philippines – Terrence Jones collected another triple-double as TNT secured the twice-to-beat playoff bonus with a 115-97 win over Blackwater in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, July 7.
The former NBA player imposed his will with 36 points, 16 rebounds, 14 assists, and 3 blocks to lift the KaTropa to their seventh straight win and ninth overall in 10 games for the win-once incentive in the quarterfinals.
It was Jones' second consecutive triple-double and third overall as he continues to solidify his case for the Best Import of the Conference award.
TNT locals benefitted from Jones' passing with 5 players breaching double figures.
Jayson Castro messed with a triple-double of 13 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds, while Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, and conjoined for 10 rebounds for the KaTropa.
Also making their presence felt in the win that saw the TNT pull away in the 2nd quarter were Brian Heruela, who had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Don Trollano, who delivered 11 points and 4 rebounds.
The KaTropa led by a measly 25-23 after the maiden period before they left the Elite in the dust with a 35-20 second-quarter assault behind Jones' 11 points.
Blackwater managed to cut its deficit to single digit in the 3rd quarter but eventually got buried by as many as 27 points, 93-66.
Ray Parks paced the Elite, which slipped to 6-4, with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, while import Staphon Blair added 16 points and 16 rebounds.
