Bolick saves the day as NorthPort sinks Meralco
The Batang Pier end the elimination round with a 9-2 record and could head into the quarterfinals as the No. 1 team

MANILA, Philippines – Robert Bolick came to the rescue for NorthPort anew as he hit the game-winner in a thrilling 93-92 victory over Meralco in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday, July 12.

Off an inbound pass from Sol Mercado, Bolick outran Cliff Hodge then coolly sank the go-ahead layup as the Batang Pier ended the elimination round with a 9-2 record.

NorthPort can head into the quarterfinals as the No. 1 team if TNT, which carries a 9-1 slate, finishes the eliminations with the same record since the Batang Pier beat the KaTropa earlier in the conference.

With 3 seconds left, the Bolts had a chance to snatch the triumph but Chris Newsome saw his reverse layup fall short as time expired.

Bolick finished with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals off the bench, Prince Ibeh chalked up 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Sol Mercado chipped in 12 points.

Nico Elorde collected 10 points and 8 assists, while Kevin Ferrer and Garvo Lanete added 9 points apiece for NorthPort.

Newsome had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, but it was just not meant to be for Meralco, which lost its seventh game in 10 outings as its playoff hopes hang in the balance.

Import Delroy James put up a triple-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, Baser Amer had 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals, while Hodge added 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals in the losing effort.
