Fajardo bags second Best Player of the Conference award

MANILA, Philippines — June Mar Fajardo added one more piece of hardware to his collection as he was feted his second Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup right before Game 4 of the Finals in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, January 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. 

The 6-foot-10 San Miguel big man amassed a total of 1141 points, which included the tallies of statistics as well as player, media, and PBA votes. 

Fajardo, 25, averaged 19.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks through the semifinals of this conference.

Also the reigning season Most Valuable Player, Fajardo bested Alaska’s Calvin Abueva (889 points) — who beat Fajardo for the 2013 Rookie of the Year plum — as well as fellow teammates Arwind Santos (523 points) and Alex Cabagnot (390 points), and former college rival Greg Slaughter of Barangay Ginebra (392 points). 

Fajardo is one of the fastest rising players 3 years into his PBA career with solid international experience.

He showcased his wares in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain with national team Gilas Pilipinas, providing quality minutes as reliever for naturalized center Andray Blatche.

The Cebu native came back with renewed energy and much improved confidence following his national stint and continued to be a dominant force for the Beermen through the current conference.

Fajardo, who also won the award during last season’s 2013 Philippine Cup, has a chance to win his first PBA title as the Beermen battle with the Aces in the best-of-7 Finals series, where San Miguel currently trails 2-1. — Rappler.com
