NBA D-Leaguer Michael Dunigan makes his second run as a PBA import as he bolsters Barangay Ginebra in the second conference of 2015

MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra has signed 25-year-old Michael Dunigan to be their import for the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Rappler learned on Friday, January 18.

Dunigan, who will be in his second stint as an import in the PBA, was last seen in Philippine basketball in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup when he played for the Air21 Express.

Dunigan averaged 23.9 PPG, 15.4 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 2.4 BPG with the Express.

“Mike Dunigan signed the contract already and is the official import of Barangay Ginebra. He will be flying out of Canton next week,” said Dunigan’s representation, basketball agent Sheryl Reyes.

According to Reyes, she, Dunigan, his agent Michel Naiditch and Ginebra came to terms on a deal on Saturday, January 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Me and Michael Naidicth are very thankful for the patience of Ginebra management, especially Alfrancis Chua (Ginebra’s team manager),” Reyes said.

She also mentioned that Dunigan’s camp is thankful of Ginebra management for letting him take time to make a decision as he was busy with the NBA D-League Showcase in Santa Cruz, California.

“Mike is very happy to come to Ginebra because he had a lot of Bible study friends from the team the last time he was here, namely Jay Jay Helterbrand.”

Dunigan played for the Oregon Ducks in US NCAA Division I basketball from 2008-2010 before going undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft. He’s also served different professional basketball stints around the world, and was recently taken 12th overall in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft.
