New PBA Commissioner Narvasa admits he has lots to learn
Narvasa admits that he hasn't followed league games closely but will make appearances at games starting next week

MANILA, Philippines – Incoming PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa has less than 3 months before taking over his new job, and he plans to learn as much as he can about his new post until then.

“I’ve not been following games closely,” Narvasa admitted to members of the media during a conference call on Thursday, May 14, shortly after PBA Chairman Pato Gregorio announced his appointment at the PBA Office. “I don’t know yet what to do,” he admitted.

Narvasa is scheduled to take over commissioner duties on August 1 in preparation for his first tenure at the job in the 2015-2016 season.

“The setup, according to [Chito] Salud, is to start watching games (as soon as possible) for me to be prepared for next season,” he said. “Next week, makikita na ako sa laro (I will be seen at the games).”

Narvasa also plans to talk to the PBA Board and owners of each franchise and thank them for unanimously voting him to be the new commissioner.

“Una, pasalamatan ang board and team owners for thinking I can do something good with the league,” he said.

“I’ll also talk to coaches and later on, players. I need their contributions – what bothers them, what we can do to help improve games, all inputs I could get.”

Due part of his new post as PBA Commissioner, Narvasa will step down as CEO of Citystate Savings Bank and will be a director instead.

“I will take a leave from the bank and concentrate on the PBA,” he said.
