Barako Bull keeps rolling, whips Globalport
Barako Bull solidifies its hold of the top spot with a 6-1 record

MANILA, Philippines – Barako Bull Energy finished the game strong on their way to solidifying their hold of the top spot with a 123-114 victory over the Globalport Batang Pier in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday, June 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Energy, now 6-1 atop everybody, were down 45-50 entering the second half and yielded control of the third to the Batang Pier. But Barako Bull opened up the payoff period with an 89-80 advantage and cruised the rest of the way.

“That’s our positive attitude. We were down but we did not give up,” said head coach Koy Banal.

Globalport, which slipped to 4-4, attempted a comeback with an 11-0 run early in the fourth but was later on unable to get the necessary stops.

Banal admitted he is not at all surprised that his team, which finished at 7th place with just 5 wins last conference, have come out strong this season-ending conference.

“I think they’re (other teams) not expecting us to play like this,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason.”

Import Liam McMorrow had a monster game with 41 points and 27 rebounds. He shot 11-of-15 field goals and milked his time at the free throw line, going 19-of-22.

Joseph Yeo sparked Barako Bull with a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists.

“He’s a zone-buster,” Banal said of Yeo, who went 7-of-17 from the field.

“Globalport gave us a different look. They zoned us that’s why they were able to get that lead, and that’s (breaking the zone) what Joseph Yeo can give us,” he added.

Carlo Lastimosa contributed 14 points, including 7 in the fourth, while JC Intal also posted 14 markers on top of 8 boards. RR Garcia added 10 points.

Globalport import Jarrid Famous topscored for his team with 32 points and 22 rebounds while Terrence Romeo scattered 30 points on 13-of-24 shooting.

Stanley Pringle added 16 while Asian import Omar Krayem finished with 11 markers.

Krayem’s three-pointer with 1:15 remaining cut the deficit to 114-110 but Barako Bull simply pulled away as Globalport absorbed its second straight loss after last week’s heartbreaking defeat versus Barangay Ginebra in overtime.

BARAKO BULL 123 – McMorrow 41, Yeo 19, Lastimosa 14, Intal 14, Garcia 10, Wilson 9, Lanete 6, Ababou 6, Pascual 4, Chua 0, Maierhofer 0.

GLOBLPORT 114 – Famous 32, Romeo 30, Pringle 16, Krayem 11, Buenafe 8, Kramer 8, Mamaril 4, Semerad 3, Ponferada 2, Hayes 0, Jensen 0.

Quarter scores: 27-20, 45-50, 87-80, 123-114. – Rappler.com
