MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel head coach Frankie Lim has been fined 50,000 pesos and suspended one game for “hitting a fallen player” in Alaska Aces forward Calvin Abueva, the PBA announced via Twitter on Tuesday, June 30.
BGSM head coach Frankie Lim fined P50,000.00 & suspended for 1 game for hitting a fallen player (Abueva) during the Ginebra vs Alaska game— PBA (@pbaconnect) June 30, 2015
The hit took place during Ginebra’s loss to the Alaska Aces last Friday, June 26, in the third quarter. Lim’s team was up 72-61 during the incident, which was preempted by a verbal altercation between Ginebra import Orlando Johnson and Abueva.
After the two players got up on each other’s face, members of both teams tried separating the duo. Abueva fell to the the ground - seemingly from a slight shove by LA Tenorio - before getting hit by Lim.

After technical fouls were handed to all 4 aforementioned guys for “second motion,” Alaska went on on a game-changing run that propelled them to a 6-point victory.
With Ginebra’s season over, it’s likely Lim will serve his suspension in his team’s first game for the 2015-2016 PBA season - assuming Ginebra retains him as head coach.
