MANILA, Philippines – The San Miguel Beermen proved they can win via blowout and via clutch performance. 

The Beermen escaped the Alaska Aces, 103-95, for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Finals of the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday, July 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

As San Miguel went on a scoring rampage in the final 7:07 of the game, it was veteran shooter Marcio Lassiter who hit the biggest shot with the go-ahead three-pointer from the corner that shoved his team ahead for good, 98-95, with a minute remaining. 

Import Arizona Reid, who lost the Best Import plum to Romeo Travis just before the game, put on a statement game with his 37 points, 7 assists and 5 steals, including key baskets down the stretch.

Travis scored the last two points for Alaska with 2:39 remaining as the went scoreless the rest of the way.

Alex Cabagnot was also part of the scoring party in the fourth with a couple of timely three-pointers that cut the Aces once 9-point lead.

Calvin Abueva made a triple early in the fourth during the Aces’ rally from a 73-all deadlock at the end of the third. In the end, San Miguel’s overflowing offensive weapons proved too much once more for the wounded Aces.

San Miguel defeated Alaska in Game 1 by 30 points and is eyeing a dangerous 3-0 lead on Wednesday, July 15.
