Jerwin Ancajas vs McJoe Arroyo title fight to be free admission
The IBF junior bantamweight title fight takes place September 3 at the Navy Gym in Taguig City, Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – The IBF junior bantamweight title fight between Puerto Rico’s McJoe Arroyo and Filipino Jerwin Ancajas on September 3 has been moved from Bacoor, Cavite to Taguig City.

Ancajas’ trainer Joven Jimenez, who is tasked by Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions to secure the fight venue, says the fight will take place at the Philippine Navy Gym after the Strike Coliseum in Cavite was unavailable. Admission will remain free to the public, with first fight to start at 5 PM.

Ancajas (24-1-1, 16 knockouts) is currently wrapping up preparations in Imus, Cavite and will relocate to Manila on August 29 – the same day the Puerto Rican titleholder Arroyo (17-0, 8 KOs) is set to arrive in the Philippines. Arroyo, who hasn’t fought since winning the title last July with a technical decision over Ancajas’ compatriot Arthur Villanueva, had previously said he was unhappy with defending his title in the Philippines after MP Promotions was the lone bidder for the fight.

Ancajas is 6 years younger than the 30-year-old Arroyo, and has a two-inch height advantage at 5-foot-6. Both fighters are southpaws.

We feel Jerwin will bring his best performance this fight. McJoe is a very good fighter; he is a versatile and experienced fighter,” said Jimenez.

The referee for the 12-round fight will be Filipino Gene Del Bianco, while the 3 judges will include a Filipino and a Puerto Rican – Gil Co and Carlos Colon – while the third will be Japan’s Takeo Harada, according to Games and Amusements Board (GAB) commissioner and IBF supervisor Matthew “Fritz” Gaston.

The 10-round co-main event will feature Jason Neri (9-1, 6 KOs) vs Vincent Bautista (4-5-3, 1 KO) in a flyweight bout. Other fights include Joey Canoy (11-2-1, 5 KOs) vs Michael Landero (18-13-4, 7 KOs) in a 10-round strawweight fight; Joepher Montano (5-0-2, 4 KOs) vs Raymond Dela Cruz (1-5-2, 1 KO) in an 8-round junior welterweight fight; Lorence Rosas (5-1-2, 2 KOs) vs Danny Tampipi (5-5-2, 3 KOs) in an 8-round junior featherweight fight; and Jerald Deniega (9-0, 7 KOs) vs Jomar Borbon (4-24-2, 2 KOs) in a 6-round featherweight fight. – Rappler.com
