Dynamite puncher Reymart Gaballo makes U.S. debut on November 15
Gaballo will try to prove his punching power works overseas when he faces Mexico's Ernesto Guerrero in Honolulu, Hawaii

MANILA, Philippines – Reymart Gaballo, who is among the best kept secrets of Philippine boxing, is set to make his US debut on November 15 when he faces Mexico’s Ernesto Guerrero in a 10-round bout at Hawaii Events Center in Honolulu.

The 21-year-old Gaballo (16-0, 14 knockouts) of General Santos City, Philippines has been training for several months with Osmiri “Moro” Fernandez in Miami, Florida, sparring with a plethora of talented fighters, including pound-for-pound candidate Guillermo Rigondeaux. The fight will be Gaballo’s first since last December.

Jim Claude Manangquil, who handles the unbeaten bantamweight alongside his brother John Ray Manangquil, said he’s monitored Gaballo’s training through videos sent back to him, and has been impressed with the Cuban coach’s adjustments to rein in Gaballo’s raw aggression.

“But we will see if it translates to the real fight,” said Manangquil, president of Sanman Promotions.

Gaballo has been untested since turning pro in 2014 but has exhibited bone-crunching power in his outings, particularly with his right hand. After a limited amateur career of about 30 fights, Gaballo has learned on the job in sparring, traveling to Japan to work with champions Shinsuke Yamanaka and Naoya Inoue.

Guerrero, who has a modest 27-21 (19 KOs) record, has been a useful stepping stone for young prospects in North America, falling short whenever he has faced better fighters.

Gaballo vs Guerrero will headline the show titled “Fight Night at the Island”, which will be promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr.

“I want to thank my team Sanman Promotions and also Bebot Elorde for giving me a chance to show my talent in front of a lot of Filipinos in Hawaii,” said Gaballo in a statement. “I am very excited and I’m ready to introduce myself in the United States.”

Other fights on the card include Kawelo Alcos, a popular amateur champion in Hawaii, making his pro debut against Jonathan Ramos, plus Isaac Hopps vs Joey Aquino, Emmit Bolibol vs Riguo Abadilla, Jacob Lopez vs Fatu Tuitasi, Jacob Lee vs Joey Shiiper, and Kealoha Helm vs Jared Gonda. Rappler.com
