After another successful title defense, Filipino boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas also puts in some good work outside the ring

MANILA, Philippines – For Jerwin Ancajas, it’s time to share his blessings.

Basking on the glory of defending his International Boxing Federation super flyweight belt in Sacramento, California, on May 4, Saturday (Sunday, May 5, Philippine time), the pride of Panabo City staged the 1st Jerwin Ancajas Fun Run for a Cause on Saturday, May 20, in his adopted hometown of Magallanes, Cavite.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines supported the fundraiser with participants coming from the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy and the Philippine Marines, where Ancajas is a reserved Chief Petty Officer.

Joggers and fitness enthusiasts also joined the event, broken down into the 3K, 5K and 10K runs, that started at 5 am.

According to Joven Jimenez, Ancajas’ chief trainer, the fun run lured around 2,000 participants.

Proceeds of the fun run will be used to buy school supplies for poor students of the elementary school  of Barangay Magallanes, where the Survival Camp of Ancajas and Jimenez is located.

Ancajas, who won by stoppage over Japanese Ryuichi Funai at the start of the 7th round, is currently on training break, his next fight tentatively set in September.

On May 29, Jimenez and Ancajas will be leaving for Macau, where the IBF will confer on Ancajas its highest award – Jersey Joe Walcott – at Wynn Palace Cotai on May 30. – Rappler.com
