Miguel Cotto signs with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

NEW YORK, USA – World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has signed a deal with Roc Nation, the sports and music promotions company run by rapper Jay-Z.

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican fighter will work with Jay-Z on fight promotions and other business deals in his homeland, according to the firm’s announcement of the agreement.

Cotto, who departed Bob Arum’s Top Rank to join Roc Nation, has bounced back from 2012 losses to unbeaten Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout in World Boxing Association super welterweight title bouts.

Cotto, 39-4 with 32 knockouts, stopped Dominican Delvin Rodriguez in the third round in 2013 and last year sent Argentine southpaw Sergio Martinez down three times in the first round on his way to a 10th-round stoppage for his latest world title.

Cotto shares trainer Freddie Roach with Manny Pacquiao and recently picked his gymmate to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr when they fight on May 2. Cotto has fought both Pacquiao and Mayweather, being knocked out in 12 by Pacquiao and losing a decision to Mayweather.

Unbeaten US fighter Andre Ward was the first fighter to join Jay-Z’s group, the WBA super middleweight champion inking a deal earlier this year. – Rappler.com
