Bradley’s former trainer favors Pacquiao to win third fight
MANILA, Philippines – Joel Diaz, the former trainer of two-time welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley Jr, believes that Manny Pacquiao will once again get the job done in his third fight against the American boxer on April 9 (April 10 Manila time).
The 43-year-old boxing coach stressed the rubber match between the two decorated pugilists will be more of the same as their first two meetings, asserting that Pacquiao has completely figured out Bradley’s fighting style.
“The statistics of boxing and logic tells us that if Bradley fought Pacquiao 10 times, he would not win. Pacquiao has already figured him out. He has his number,” Diaz told ESPN Deportes.
Diaz trained the 32-year-old native of Palm Springs, California for the majority of his 12-year prizefighting career and was in Bradley’s corner when he fought Pacquiao in June 2012 and April 2014.
Bradley walked away with a controversial split decision victory over Pacquiao in their first confrontation, but the Filipino boxing icon settled the score in their rematch with a convincing decision triumph.
Bradley parted ways with his longtime trainer in September 2015 and acquired the services of Teddy Atlas to prepare him for his WBO welterweight title defense versus Brandon Rios two months later.
Bradley and Diaz have since traded barbs in the media.
Bradley’s first outing under Atlas was a success as he disposed of Rios in the ninth round, scoring his first knockout win since taking out Joel Casamayor in November 2011.
Although Diaz favors Pacquiao to have his hand raised against his ex-pupil, he is not ruling out an upset win by Bradley.
“There are always possibilities [of an upset] with a top level fighter as disciplined as Tim Bradley. He is a top level fighter who leaves nothing out [in training camp] and prepares very strong,” he said. – Rappler.com
