Pacquiao to be designated as PH’s poster boy for tourism

MANILA, Philippines – Members of the House committee on tourism mutually agreed to designate boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao as the official face of the Department of Tourism on Thursday, December 1. 

1PACMAN Rep. Enrico Pineda expressed that the appointment of the boxing icon as the agency’s official endorser and spokesperson would benefit the country’s tourism campaign due to his immense popularity around the world. 

“Sen. Pacquiao’s international stature is a big boost to the tourism industry of the country. His endorsement would create a lot of impact, especially in the social media,” stated Pineda. 

Pineda also added during the hearing that should this proposal be approved, Sen. Pacquiao may extend his services free of charge. 

Committee chairman and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez later on approved the motion. 

The House committee further discussed the action plans and programs of DOT and its attached agencies to further boost the state of Philippine tourism.

The 8-division boxing champion is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Mexican-American Jessie Vargas last month, earning him the WBO welterweight title for the third time. – Rappler.com
