MANILA, Philippines – Freddie Roach’s assistant trainer Marvin Somodio is confident that World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Timothy “The Desert Storm” Bradley will be mauled in his upcoming rematch with Manny Pacquiao on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada USA.

Somodio, a native of Iloilo, predicted that Pacquiao’s fast-paced fighting style will give Bradley problems despite the American’s great technical boxing skills.

“I do not know if he (Pacquiao) is going to win by knockout but I’m pretty sure Bradley will be battered and will suffer a lot,” Somodio of Baguio City told Rappler from Los Angeles, Calif.

Somodi, who worked Pacquiao’s corner for his most recent fight against Brandon Rios, admitted that the 30-year-old Bradley (31-0, 12 knockouts) of Palms Springs, Calif. has a strong chin and good counter-punching ability, adding that a victory won’t come easy for Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs).

Pacquiao, for his part, also needs to train smarter and adjust to Bradley’s tactics, Somodio feels.

“Bradley improved a lot since their last fight and became stronger and smarter too,” added Somodio, referring to Bradley’s controversial split decision win over Pacquiao last June 2012 that drew huge criticisms from the international boxing community.

“Pacquiao is very fast and he’s going to become faster, smarter and stronger this time around.”

Bradley scored a unanimous win over “Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov and Pacquiao’s long-time Mexican archrival Juan Manuel Marquez last year.

Pacquiao lost to Marquez via sixth round knockout in December 2012 before returning last November with a unanimous decision victory over the former WBA lightweight titleholder Rios in Macau, China.

“We already solved Pacquiao’s cramps problem with proper training in his last fight and this time, he’s going to win over Bradley,” said Somodio.

Somodio said he will not be heading to the Philippines to attend Pacquiao’s early training in General Santos, which begins this weekend.

Instead, he will wait for Pacquiao and Roach to go to the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, most likely on March 1. – Rappler.com
