As Pacquiao calls for fight, Mayweather mocks Marquez loss anew
If you thought Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be sending his congratulations to Manny Pacquiao for his latest win, think again.

MANILA, Philippines – If you thought Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be sending his congratulations to Manny Pacquiao for his latest win, think again.

Mayweather, recognized as the sport’s pound-for-pound best fighter by The Ring magazine, took shots at the 8-division boxing champion on Wednesday afternoon, posting video of Pacquiao’s 2012 knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez to the accompaniment of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.”

Mayweather’s latest potshot comes on the heels of Pacquiao’s dominant decision victory over previously unbeaten junior welterweight titleholder Chris Algieri on Sunday in Macau. The General Santos City, Philippines native knocked Algieri down six times en route to the unanimous decision win, wrapping up his year with a second victory over an undefeated fighter.

Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) of Las Vegas, Nev. also won both of his fights in 2014, decisioning Marcos Maidana twice. While Pacquiao has two wins, a loss and a draw in 4 tough fights with Marquez, Mayweather won a one-sided decision over Marquez in 2009.

Pacquiao’s camp has been very vocal about making the elusive fight with Mayweather, using the Algieri post-fight press conference to call out the 37-year-old fighter.

“The people deserve that fight. The fans deserve that fight. I think it’s time to make that fight happen,” said Pacquiao.

Disagreements over pre-fight performance enhancing drug testing and purse splits have spoiled fight negotiations in the past. Mayweather has made other demands as well, like having to leave promoter Top Rank to sign with his Mayweather Promotions outfit, have the fight on Showtime pay-per-view (Pacquiao fights on rival network HBO) and avenge his loss to Marquez.

Pacquiao has tried to make a fifth fight with Marquez but Marquez has stood by his decision to leave the rivalry with the last laugh.

Pacquiao’s submission to random testing through the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) prior to the Algieri fight, as well as his willingness to take a smaller percentage of pay would work towards making the fight more feasible.

“The talks are already going on. It is more of what the fans want. It’s not about the pay (level). That’s the least of his concerns,” Pacquiao’s business manager Eric Pineda told Agence France-Presse.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has said that Leslie Moonves, CEO of Showtime’s parent company CBS, has been trying to bring both sides together to make the fight happen, but refused to comment on the discussions.

Mayweather’s side has been less outspoken on the subject of Pacquiao, but has addressed him several times on social media to mock his losses. In September he posted photos of Pacquiao being knocked down with the caption “Miss Pac Man is broke and desperate for a pay day.”

Mayweather has reserved a fight date on May 2 – the weekend before Cinco de Mayo – with opponents like Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto being floated around.

Pacquiao has himself made light of the Mayweather situation, releasing a commercial for American shoe store Foot Locker the week of the Algieri fight where he exclaims “He’s going to fight me!” in reference to Mayweather. – Rappler.com
