Pacquiao dreamt of losing to Floyd ahead of fight

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao arrived in his hometown on Friday morning, May 15 with another revelation. 

One month before the fight, Pacquiao told a press conference here at the activity center of SM Gensan City Mall that, in his dreams, he lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He relayed it to a pastor friend who reminded Pacquiao of his dreams after the fight.

Pacquiao suffered another defeat, his sixth, via a unanimous decision to Mayweather on May 3 Manila time.

The Filipino boxing icon also suffered from a torn rotator cuff on his shoulder while in training, which largely went unreported to the press.

While not making the injury an excuse in a lopsided decision loss to Mayweather, Pacquiao underwent arthroscopic surgery after the fight leading many to believe he was not at his best when he fought the American champion who unified the world welterweight boxing crowns. 

Uncertain boxing future

When pressed when his next fight will be, Pacquiao said it will take at least 6 months for his right shoulder to completely heal and another 2-4 months of calibrated training before he could climb the ring. 

Upon his arrival in Manila from the US on Wednesday, May 13, Pacquiao broadly hinted at retirement from boxing. 

Pacquiao will earn at least $100 million for the Mayweather fight when all revenues are added up. 

Their fight broke all existing records ever since boxing became a lucrative pay-per-view (PPV) attraction.

In addition to the 4.4 million PPV buys which eclipsed the 2.4 million buys of the De la Hoya-Mayweather match, the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight likewise broke the standard of live gate receipts with over US$70 million live ticket sales.

Pacquiao however is believed to be entertaining a possible run for a seat in the Philippine Senate in May 2016 making even another lucrative bout in a rematch with Mayweather in April. 

He was also non-committal about what many thought is a stepping stone to a political ambition that could land Pacquiao in Malacañang in 2022. 

But no more politics for Jinkee 

Pacquiao however confirmed that his wife Jinkee is no longer seeking re-election in Sarangani. 

“I told my wife her projects would go to waste (sayang),” Pacquiao said of his wife’s decision to quit politics.

Before leaving for the US, Jinkee told employees and supporters that she will give up her position as vice governor of Sarangani.

Jinkee won handily in 2013 as a compromise candidate after Pacquiao’s political allies wrangled over the post.

Pacquiao said his wife will concentrate on attending to their children who are now all residing in General Santos City.

Pacquiao arrived here together with Jinkee and their children but the latter immediately slipped away for home instead of joining him at the press conference.
