MANILA, Philippines — Things are looking better for the football wizard Filipinos call Schrocky.

After debuting in the Bundesliga last season with the almost-relegated TSG 1899 Hoffenheim side, the Philippine Azkals’ talismanic midfielder Stephan Schrock is set to stay in Germany’s top flight, joining 6th-seed side Eintracht Frankfurt.

In an official announcement on the squad’s website, Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed that they signed the Philippine international to a two-year contract.

Schrock’s contract will last until June 30, 2015. Details of the transfer agreement, including the fee, were not disclosed by the German side.

In a brief stint with Die Hoff, Schrock made 10 appearances without any goals. He joined Hoffenheim after being acquired from SpVgg Greuther Furth last season.

Schrock was instrumental in the 2. Bundesliga campaign of Furth that saw them top the league in the 2011-2012 season and enter the top flight.

The move to Eintracht Frankfurt opens up continental competition for the Philippine international, which can only mean good things for the Azkals.

By finishing 6th in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt is qualified to participate in the UEFA Europa League, Europe’s second most prestigious club competition.

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Armin Veh explained Schrock’s versatility and work rate were the main reasons for the squad’s interest in him.

“We were there last year (and are) already interested in Stephan Schrock because he can be used in several positions. We are pleased that the exchange has now folded,” Eintracht Frankfurt said in its website. – Rappler.com
