MANILA, Philippines – In a bid to retain its tag as a title contender, Kaya FC ran away with the full 3 points as they clipped Pachanga Diliman FC, 2-1, in their season opener Tuesday night, January 14 at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.

Set for Pachanga’s late-game efforts, it was a total domination by Kaya as Chris Greatwich opened the books in the 26th minute while newly-signed Thomas Taylor capped his remarkable debut with a spectacular 39th minute goal.

It was OJ Porteria, however, who had the best night for David Perkovic’s side as he persistently terrorized Pachanga’s defense with his menacing runs and resourcefulness, playing important roles in both of Kaya’s goals.

Placing fourth in the 2013 League competition, Kaya revamped its lineup in the preseason, with Taylor, and Richard Greer comprising some of their major additions but they also dropped their long-time number 1 keeper Saba Garmaroudi in what was a surprising move by the club’s management.

Going up against Pachanga in his first start in a UFL League game, Garmaroudi’s replacement and former Ateneo goalie Nick O’Donnel had a great showing, almost finishing the game with a clean sheet if not for Ariel Zerrudo’s injury time goal that put PDFC behind by just one, 1-2.

Pachanga, which is playing its second game in less than 4 days, did not have enough time though as they could not follow-up their convincing win over Team Socceroo last weekend.

On Thursday, January 16, Team Socceroo will take on Philippine Army in the first game while Pasargad opens its season with a matchup with Green Archers United at the Emperador Stadium. – Rappler.com
