UFL: Loyola drubs Pasargad; Socceroo holds Stallion to 1-1 draw

MANILA, Philippines – Phil Younghusband and Simon Greatwich scored two goals each as the Loyola Meralco Sparks zapped Pasargad, 4-0, in the United Football League, Saturday, January 25, at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.

The Sparks took their third straight win and remain unbeaten as they pulled off another impressive victory at the expense of PSG, which were stunned by two early goals from Younghusband and Greatwich in the 7th and 11th minute respectively.

The Azkals striker then made it a 3-nil affair just before the break as he made mincemeat of the Pasargad backline to complete his brace and score his fifth goal so far this season.

Pasargad held Loyola scoreless for most of the second half but could not produce a goal of their own until Greatwich wrapped up the night with a 90th minute goal, completing the 4-0 rout and increase their goal difference to +12 with only a goal conceded in 2014.

With the win, Loyola distances itself farther from second placers Kaya FC while Pasargad sinks to 0-1-2 to occupy the 8th spot in the standings.

Loyola will try to keep their record untarnished against the still win-less Green Archers United on Tuesday, January 28, while PSG will face fellow cellar-dweller Team Socceroo on Thursday, January 30.

Team Socceroo draws Stallion, 1-1

Looking to get their 2014 campaign finally going, Team Socceroo took their first point of the season as they held reigning champions Stallion FC to a 1-1 draw in the night’s curtain-raiser.

Stallion midfielder Napoleon Bustillo put Stallion on top as he opened the books in the 26th minute but their celebration were short-lived as Jude Duruachazie equalized less than ten minutes later with a 34th minute stunner.

Stallion tried to take the full three points as they came up with several scoring chances but Team Socceroo’s defense held their ground to end their three-game losing skid since the start of this season.

Coach Ernie Nierras’ side continues to struggle as they are yet to win a single match this year and settles at 7th place at 0-2-1.
