MANILA, Philippines – Azkals standout Stephan Schrock tendered his resignation from national team duties according to the team’s official Facebook fan page on Monday, August 4.

In a statement posted by The Azkals, a page managed by the Philippine Football Federation and the management of the team, Schrock has already notified the management about his departure from the squad.

“Azkals Player Stephan Cabizares Schrock informed Coach Thomas Dooley and the Team Management tonight of his resignation from the Philippine National Football Team,” the page said.

The post added that the team’s management feels sorry for his departure but reiterated that they are thankful for the Fil-German’s contributions to Philippine football.

“Coach Dooley and Team Manager Dan Palami regret the decision of Schroeck, but they accept and respect his desire to pursue new challenges. They likewise express their deep gratitude for Schroeck’s commitment to the Azkals in the past and his pivotal contribution to the team and raising football awareness in the country,” according to the post.

Schrock debuted for the Azkals in a win against Sri Lanka in the first round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after gaining eligibility to play for his mother’s homeland. He has a total of 3 international goals and 17 national club appearances for the Philippines.

His most notable performance with the Philippine National Football team came in October of 2013 when he delivered an assist and a goal to propel the Azkals past Pakistan to win their second straight Peace Cup title.

Consequently, Schrock made his inaugural comeback for his old club SPVgg Greuther Fuerth in the second division of the German Bundesliga in a 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum on Saturday, August 2. – Rappler.com
