University of Kent cries foul after Pornhub sponsors football club

MANILA, Philippines – University of Kent officials have told Pornhub to beat it after one of the British school’s inter-collegiate football clubs secured the X-rated site as a team sponsor.

Unable to find a company to help finance their season, the Rutherford Raiders jokingly put the site’s logo on their jerseys. After hearing of the gag, the Canada-based company agreed to sponsor the club, which upset school officials. The university threatened to cancel the team’s season if they didn’t part with their new sponsor.

“The team has been spoken with and will not be allowed to wear the shirts in question at any time,” university spokesman Martin Herrema said. 

The team defended their sponsorship, claiming that their club isn’t the only one with an edgy sponsor. 

“The university cricket team are sponsored by Kingfisher (beer), which is also an age-restricted product,” one anonymous player told The Tab, a student news site. “The university rugby team once had training shirts with ’80 minutes, 15 positions, no protection, wanna ruck?’

“In my opinion the decision is made by people in Kent sport that are out of touch with what’s socially acceptable. It’s hard for football teams to find a sponsor. Both Kent sport and Rutherford refused to give us any money.”

The Rutherford Raiders won the 2012-13 inter-college league championship and “are a team for residents of Rutherford College, Tyler Court and the Parkwood Courts Kemsdale, Lypeatt and Marley, competing in inter-college, inter-university and KAFL (university amateur league) football,” according to The Tab.

Their games are played twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

This isn’t the first time Pornhub’s logo has been deemed objectionable. Earlier this month, a Pornhub billboard in New York City’s Times Square was removed hours after it was erected after the hotel it was placed alongside of issued a complaint.
