Philippine Wrestling Revolution begins new chapter on August 15
MANILA, Philippines – After the controversial conclusion of Philippine Wrestling Revolution’s last show “Wrevolution X” this past May, the sports-entertainment promotion opens a new phase on August 15 by staging its fifth event dubbed “PWR Live” at the Makati Square Arena in Makati City.
The pro wrestling card is headlined by a PWR championship rematch between current titleholder “Classical” Bryan Leo and “The Senyorito” Jake De Leon.
Leo captured the PWR championship belt when he redeemed his title shot from general manager Mr. Sy after defeating Mayhem Brannigan in an Iron Man match at PWR: Wrevolution X.
De Leon, who was celebrating his title-winning performance against Bombay Suarez, had a short night as the PWR champion as Leo pounced on him with the Royal Flushdown to seize the prestigious top prize in an imprompt title match.
Prior to PWR: Wrevolution X, Leo and De Leon were already familiar with each other as both men first crossed paths in September 2014 at PWR: Renaissance, where the high-flying De Leon earned a clean victory versus the brash figure “from a first-world country.”
However, De Leon’s celebration was short-lived as Leo came back to the ring and issued a rematch, which De Leon accepted with no other choice.
Leo immediately kicked De Leon’s injured leg before finishing it off with a belly-to-back inverted mat slam to get the 1-2-3.
At December’s PWR: Terminus, De Leon teamed up with Suarez in a triumphant effort to defeat the heel duo of Leo and Main Maxx.
With Leo once again pestering the aristocratic haciendero from Negros Occidental, De Leon has the opportunity to settle the score and regain the PWR championship on August 15.
Aside from the main event, PWR Live will feature an 8-man tournament for the Philippine Hybrid X championship, the wrestling organization’s maiden mid-card title.
Masked crowd-favorite Mayhem Brannigan faces Miguel Rosales of Fighters 4 Hire, while Rosales’ colleague Joey Bax squares off with “The Human Trending Topic” Ken Warren.
Also included in the first round of the tourney is Chris Panzer locking horns with SANDATA and Ralph Imabayashi battling Peter Versoza of Dual Shock.
Mark D. Manalo, one-half of the heavily-cheered tag team known as “Beer Promdi” along with Kanto Terror, issues an open challenge to a fresh graduate of the PWR Bootcamp.
Meanwhile, Bombay Suarez aims to reinsert his name into the winner’s column at the expense of Royal Flush member John Sebastian.
Tickets are available at the Makati Square Arena for Php 250 ($5.74) on the said date. Doors open at 5 pm, while first bell rings at 6 pm. – Rappler.com
