Pitpitunge, Lausa to face off at PXC 51’s press conference
MANILA, Philippines – Days before Crisanto Pitpitunge and Jenel Lausa set foot inside the Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) cage, both homegrown talents will see eye-to-eye at a press conference on Thursday, January 14 at Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City to promote their flyweight championship clash.
Pitpitunge and Lausa are booked to face each other for the Guam-based organization’s available flyweight belt in the main event of PXC 51, which takes place at the aforementioned 5-star hotel’s Grand Ballroom on Saturday, January 16.
PXC’s flyweight championship was rendered vacant in June 2015 when then-champion Alvin Cacdac missed weight in his title tilt versus Pitpitunge, who also went over the 125-pound limit.
As a result of the unfortunate incident, the promotion stripped Cacdac of the silver-plated strap that he won by submitting Ernesto Montilla Jr. with a rear-naked choke in November 2014.
The said match-up still pushed through as a 5-round non-title contest, where Pitpitunge shut the lights off on Cacdac in the first round with a well-timed overhand right and a follow-up right hook to the temple.
Pitpitunge (8-3), a former PXC bantamweight titleholder, is currently riding high on a 3-fight winning streak since transferring to the 125-pound weight class in 2014, which included wins over Josh Duenas and Rambaa Somdet.
On the other hand, Lausa (5-2) solidified his status as the No. 1 contender for the PXC flyweight title by avenging his 2013 decision loss to Montilla as he knocked out his rival with a left hook in the last second of the first round in June 2015.
Prior to his rematch with Montilla, the 27-year-old native of Concepcion, Iloilo claimed two-straight impressive triumphs in 2014, outpointing Venson Delopere in March before forcing Dean Bermudez to tap with a guillotine choke 8 months later.
Also in attendance for PXC 51’s press conference is Kyle Aguon, who defends his bantamweight belt against Korean stalwart Kwan Ho Kwak in the affair’s co-featured bout.
