Jenel Lausa clears phone lines for possible call from UFC
Jenel Lausa hopes to join the list of PXC alumni who made the jump to the UFC

MANILA, Philippines – Newly-minted Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) flyweight titleholder Jenel Lausa is excitedly anticipating a career-changing call from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Lausa, who is coming off a title-winning performance against fellow Filipino competitor Crisanto Pitpitunge at PXC 51 on Saturday, January 16, revealed that being part of the UFC roster is one of his ultimate goals as a mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor.

“Of course, I will get surprised if ever I get that call from the UFC. It’s a dream aside from being a PXC champion. I promise that my phone won’t be busy,” he told Rappler.

Aside from generating homegrown talents, PXC also served as the footstool for several prizefighters to be noticed by the world’s premier MMA organization, including Roldan Sangcha-an, Jon Tuck, Hyun Gyu Lim, Dustin Kimura, Michinori Tanaka and Louis Smolka.

Smolka earned a UFC contract after dethroning Filipino fighter Ale Cali for the PXC flyweight title in November 2013 and immediately made his Octagon debut two months later with a unanimous decision triumph over Alptekin Ozkilic.

Meanwhile, Lausa captured the Guam-based company’s vacant flyweight championship with a split decision win against Pitpitunge.

While he waits for his phone to ring, Lausa remains focused on his role as the new PXC featherweight kingpin.

“If it’s going to happen, it will happen. If it’s going to come, it will come. But I rather put my focus on being PXC’s new champion,” he said.

Lausa says he is willing to face anyone in PXC’s flyweight locker room to prove his worth as a fighting champion.

“I am willing to fight anyone and defend this belt. I am ready. That’s all,” he stated. – Rappler.com
