Kuwait will be represented by Mohammad Gharreb, Abdulrhaman Alawadhi, Abdulhamid Mubarak and Abdulhameed Alshatti and captain Adel Al-Shatti.

Opening day begins with a singles showdown between Patrombon and Abdulrahman Alawadhi, followed by Filipino Ruben Gonzales facing off with Mohammad Ghareeb.

“I like our chances of getting a 2-0 lead in the singles match. Jeson and Ruben have been consistently producing good results the past months in their campaigns in Asia and South America respectively. I’m confident they will deliver,” said team manager Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“The goal is to sweep the first day singles matches and finish it off on Saturday with Treat bannering our doubles team.”

The Philippines is hoping to win the Asia/Oceania group and earn promotion to Group I, where it last played in 2011. The winner of the 3-day tournament will face the winner of Chinese Taipei vs Malaysia in the semifinals, which are set for July 15-17.

The Philippines has twice played against – and defeated – Kuwait in the Davis Cup, earning a 3-2 win in 2002 and a 5-0 sweep in 2007.

Friday’s matches begin at 3 pm, while Saturday’s doubles match starts at 6 pm and the reverse rubbers to begin at 2 pm on Sunday. Tickets to each day’s matches cost P500 per day and P1000 for the whole weekend. – Rappler.com
