Daniel Cormier pulls out of title fight vs Jon Jones at UFC 197

MANILA, Philippines – After all the uncertainty surrounding Jon Jones this week, it was a reason involving Daniel Cormier that led to the cancellation of their light heavyweight championship rematch at UFC 197. 

According to a report from BJPenn.com, Cormier has been forced to withdraw due to a foot injury.

UFC officials have not yet made a formal announcement on Cormier’s sudden pullout, but a person with knowledge of the injury confirmed the news to Rappler. 

It is also unknown at the moment if Jones will remain on the card against a new opponent or if he will be pulled from the pay-per-view event to wait for Cormier to heal for a future affair. 

The UFC 197 headliner was put in jeopardy earlier this week when Jones was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico for violating his probation.

Jones was released from jail on Friday, April 1 (Manila time) and received several new conditions for his probation. 

UFC 197 features another championship clash which could be promoted to main-event status if necessary as flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson will put his gold-plated strap on the line versus Henry Cejudo. – Rappler.com
