PH women’s softball team to face the world’s best in July
The RP Blue Girls will compete in the World Cup of Softball XI and World Women's Softball Championship as they seek a spot in the 2020 Olympics

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine women’s softball team is set to clash against the world’s elite in two different tournaments this month.

The RP Blu Girls, as they’re known, will compete in the World Cup of Softball XI, in Oklahoma City, USA, which will run from July 5 to 10 (July 6, Manila time).

The queens of Southeast Asian softball will first battle the fourth ranked USA team on opening day, followed by sixth-rank China on the seventh, followed by the 11th ranked Puerto Rico and the top-ranked Japan on the same day on July 7. The Philippines will then face the 19th-rated Venezuela and the seventh-ranked Netherlands on June 8, and third-ranked Australia on July 9 before the championship game on the 10th

The Southeast Asian (SEA) Games champions will be back in action shortly after on July 15 (July 16, Manila time) for the World Women’s Softball Championship in Surrey, Canada.

“This is a perfect start for our 4-year plan for our RP Blu Girls to compete and contend in 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier said in a statement.

The RP Blu Girls are currently 23rd in the world rankings, but the Philippine women’s softball team has a chance to improve their standing against the world’s best. – Rappler.com
