Amanda Nunes submits bloody Miesha Tate to bag UFC gold
Nunes makes Tate's title reign a short one as she forces her opponent to tap from a rear-naked choke

MANILA, Philippines – Amanda Nunes made history by becoming the first Brazilian female fighter to win an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) world title after defeating Miesha Tate.

Nunes made quick work of her opponent in the main event of UFC 200 on Saturday, July 9 (Sunday Manila time) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada by submitting Tate with a rear-naked choke.

Although Tate came out of her corner on a high note by immediately converting a takedown, she ate a right hand to the face from Nunes, who forced her to wave the white flag at the 3:16 mark of the first round.

It was the beginning of the end for Tate when the 28-year-old Brazilian got comfortable throwing her punches.

Nunes initially hurt Tate with a pair of right straights before delivering a body shot that clearly hurt her American opponent.

After Tate stumbled to the ground but managed to regain her footing, Nunes pitched another strong right that opened the floodgate of blood from her foe’s nose.

As Tate stalked for Nunes’ legs, she wound up face-down on the mat, giving the Brazilian challenger space to immediately position herself on her counterpart’s back.

Nunes swiftly fastened a rear-naked choke and rolled over, but her arm was not under Tate’s chin.

However, the pressure on Tate’s throat was enough to force a tap and crown Nunes as the new UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

With the submission triumph over Tate, Nunes improves to a professional record of 13-4 and is now riding high on a 4-fight winning streak.

In the other corner, Tate downgrades to a 18-6 standing and snaps 5-bout winning streak. – Rappler.com
