Amir Khan seeks KO win over Filipino fighter Vaughn Donayre
Fighting in front of a hometown crowd, the 22-year-old Singaporean will look for no less than a knockout win when he locks horns with Donayre

SINGAPORE – Singaporean fighter Amir Khan is confident that he can secure a decisive victory against Filpino stalwart Vaughn Donayre.

Khan and Donayre are set to face each other on the undercard of ONE Championship’s “Defending Honor” event, which takes place at the 12,000-seater Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on Friday, November 11.

Fighting in front of a hometown crowd, the 22-year-old Singaporean will look for no less than a knockout win when he locks horns with Donayre.

“I expect a tough fight, but I’m used to finishing my fight early. I wouldn’t expect anything different,” Khan said.

Khan has not won via decision in his budding mixed martial arts career, owning 5 knockout triumphs with 4 coming in the first round.

Although Donayre might pose a threat in the field of on-feet exchanges, Khan believes he is a more dynamic striker than his Filipino opponent.

“Even though he’s better in striking compared to [other aspects] of his game, I believe I’m a better, more dynamic striker. I will catch him unexpectedly [and win by] KO or TKO,” Khan said.

He also downplayed the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pedigree of Donayre, who holds 3 submission victories in his win-loss slate of 8-5.

According to an upbeat Khan, he is ready wherever the 3-round lightweight contest versus Donayre goes.

“I’m not worried about his grappling,” said Khan. “He may be good in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a Gi on, but with No-Gi like MMA, I don’t think he’s good at it. I feel I have the advantage [in both striking and grappling].” – Rappler.com
