WATCH: Cowboy Cerrone shuts Brown’s lights with head kick

MANILA, Philippines – Hello darkness my old friend.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone shut out the lights on Matt Brown on Saturday, December 10 (Sunday Manila time), kicking his head like a field goal in the welterweight co-main event of UFC 206 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Cerrone moved his record to 32-7 (19-4 in the UFC) after overcoming a second round knockdown and opening several cuts around Brown’s eyes in their 3-round lightweight contest before slamming a left kick to Brown’s face as he dipped down. Referee John McCarthy stopped the fight immediately at the 0:34 mark of the round.

The win was a sweet payoff for the 33-year-old who attempted to shake Brown’s hand after the weigh-in the night before, only to be rebuffed. Despite sporting a few bumps and bruises, Cerrone says he would like to fight again on January 28 when the company goes to his hometown of Denver, Colorado for UFC on Fox 23.

“I just want to fight in my hometown. I don’t care, the ‘who’ never matters,” said Cerrone when asked who he’d want to face on that card.

In the main event, Max Holloway stopped ex-lightweight champ Anthony Pettis on strikes at 4:50 of the third round to win the UFC interim featherweight title.

Pettis had weighed in at 3 pounds over the weight limit at 148 and was ineligible to win the title. Holloway instead earned the date with new champion Jose Aldo after winning his tenth straight fight. – Rappler.com
