Some of the Philippines' best surfers battle it out for wave supremacy in Gubat, Sorsogon

MANILA, Philippines – Surfers hit the waves of a relatively new surfing destination at Gubat Sorsogon Surfriders Association’s Lunad sa Balod: A National Surfing Competition and Music Festival, which took place from October 21-23 at the Buenavista Surf Camp in Gubat, Sorsogon.

Driven by a dream to produce national surfing champions from the Province of Sorsogon, some of the Philippines’ best surfers from Siargao, Baler, Zambales, Catanduanes, La Union, Samar, Leyte, and Lanuza made the competition more intense than expected as each delegate was determined to bring  the championship title back to their hometown.

More than competition, the event served as a grand reunion for the Philippine surfing community. Bands coming from Sorsogon, Legazpi and Cebu City provided entertainment, with Kokoi Baldo, a surfer himself, performing soulful acoustic ukelele music.

This event was co-presented by the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, Municipal Government of Gubat, Grind, Roxy, Quiksilver and DC.
