Before the 2019 SEA Games action unfolds, Filipino athletes look to carry the country's colors in style

MANILA, Philippines – Team Philippines will be sporting the national colors in style in the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The Filipino athletes’ official training apparel will be sponsored by Asics, which includes a predominantly red tracksuit to go with the Spring Summer 2019 Roadhawk FF2 running shoes.

Meanwhile, Team Philippines’ official barong is created by renowned Filipino designer Francis Libiran, who had designed gowns for both local and international artists.

The barong features an embossed design of sun rays on the sleeves and a detachable collar, which captures the image of a Philippine flag.

“The sun rays are very symbolic because it’s positive, so it’s a very good indication for our athletes to think that way,” said Libiran.

The buttons for both the men’s and women’s barong are made of Swarovski crystals to add an additional glow to the athletes during the 2019 SEA Games parade.

“Whichever angle the athlete is walking during the parade, it’s very visible because our traditional barong is usually in the front lang, plus the collar from afar, I wanted it to be visible with colors, but I didn’t want it too colorful so we just made use of blue and red from our flag.”
