Rolando Dy shaves entire body to make weight for MMA title fight
Rolando Dy will be smoother than ever for his PXC bantamweight title match against Kyle Aguon

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Filipino fighter Rolando Gabriel Dy was forced to resort to extreme measures to make weight for his upcoming fight.

Dy (5-2), the son of former boxing world champion Rolando Navarrete, is booked to vie for the vacant Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) bantamweight championship against Kyle Aguon (7-4) in the main event of PXC 45, which takes place at the University of Guam field house in Mangilao, Guam on Friday, October 24.

The official weigh-in was held on Thursday morning, October 23 at the Pacific Island Club Amphitheater, where the Guam-based organization paraded with 16 fighters for an eight-fight card.

In his first attempt, Dy was above the 135-pound border by 0.5 lbs and was allotted an hour to shed the excess.

“I did not make weight in my first step on the scale. I can’t even move because of dehydration and my body is not producing sweat anymore,” Dy posted on his personal Facebook account.

Dy’s opponent Aguon tipped the weighing scale at exactly 135 pounds for the second title tilt of his seven-year career.

The 5-foot-9 Guamanian had the opportunity to challenge then-champion Michinori Tanaka for the bantamweight belt at PXC 40 in October 2013, but Aguon failed in his campaign to bring home the silver-plated strap by bowing down to the Japanese combatant by unanimous decision.

Aguon is coming off a first-round submission of Troy Bantiag in June at PXC 44, where he forced the Team Lakay representative to wave the white flag with a Kimura lock to remain as one of the weight class’ top contenders.

Dy received the clearance to face Aguon in the second try, but he had to shave all the hair on his body to unerringly weigh 135 pounds.

“My uncle and aunt shaved all the hairs of my body including the hair on my head just to get the weight,” he revealed.

The 23-year-old Dy earned the right to compete for the division’s top prize when he convincingly thumped Korean prospect Han Bin Park via unanimous decision in his opening stint as a bantamweight competitor at PXC 43 this past March.

Prior to his encounter with Park, Dy fought his initial six bouts as a featherweight, holding notable victories over Kyle Reyes, Arex Montalban, Alde de Soza and Ryan Taclan.

“I will be fighting tomorrow with a bald head. Somebody will pay for that,” Dy warned. – Rappler.com
