Rousey submits Zingano in 14 seconds to retain UFC title

MANILA, Philippines – Ronda Rousey successfully defended her UFC women’s bantamweight title for the fifth time by making a quick work on Cat Zingano in the main event of UFC 184 on Sunday, March 1 (PH Time) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The 28-year-old Rousey compelled Zingano to wave the white flag in just 14 seconds with her signature armbar finisher, notching her ninth win by way of the same submission hold and tenth first-round stoppage.

Zingano launched a flying knee and then applied a headlock to take Rousey to the mat, but the champion reversed the position while in motion and afterwards scrambled to her opponent’s back.

Rousey pinned Zingano’s exposed limb underneath her armpit, calmly cranking up a straight armbar that forced a quick tap from the 32-year-old challenger.

“We were expecting that she might just come out and just do something flying at me right away. I originally thought I was going to check [the punch and throw a] left hook, but I just caught her instead. I was actually working on that armbar, not at that angle, but hey, it works,” she said in her post-fight interview.

With the remarkable victory over Zingano, Rousey remains undefeated and acquires a new professional mixed martial arts record of 11-0.

On the other hand, Zingano tastes the first defeat in her prizefighting career and downgrades her standing to 9-1.

Zingano was in shock at the turns of events and struggled to contain her emotions after the championship clash.

“She had my arm, and I saw her leg. It was in, but it wasn’t in. She f-cking won. She did it. That was a good armbar,” Zingano stated in disappointment.

Earlier on the fight card, Filipino-American fighter Mark Muñoz bowed down to Roan Carneiro via rear-naked choke in the first round. – Rappler.com
