Red Dela Cruz becomes first homegrown Pinay Octagon girl
For the first time in history, a homegrown Filipina will grace the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s famed Octagon

MANILA, Philippines – For the first time in history, a homegrown Filipina will grace the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s famed Octagon as Red Dela Cruz has been selected among five lady hopefuls in the organization’s Philippine ring girl search.

The world’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion declared Dela Cruz as the winner on Wednesday, May 13, but she will be formally introduced during this afternoon’s open workouts at SM Mall of Asia’s Music Hall in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

Dela Cruz will hold valet duties on Saturday’s fight night at Mall of Asia Arena alongside crowd-favorite Arianny Celeste, who is a quarter-Filipina and paid a visit to the country in May 2012 when she was invited to make several guest appearances.

Dela Cruz is not new to the sport as she served as one of the two official round girls of Pacific Xtreme Combat, a Guam-based MMA company which has staged 13 of its last 24 fight cards in the country.

Aside from MMA, she also appeared on several men’s magazine such as FHM, Red Magazine and once endorsed Premiere Condoms as part of the annual “Vixen” contest. – Rappler.com
