PH volleyball stars form Beach Volleyball Republic
The BVR heads aim to use their love and passion for the game to promote a culture of “cooperation instead of competition”

MANILA, Philippines – A number of notable volleyball stars in the Philippines have come together to form the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR), an organization that “believes in beach volleyball as a lifestyle” and aims to promote the sport in different areas of the country.

Brought together by Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, Dzi Gervacio, Charo Soriano, and Bea Tan, the BVR hopes to take advantage of the numerous beaches around the Philippines where they can hold beach volley tournaments and workshops for fans.

“We believe that our love for Beach Volleyball unites us and helps bring forth a strong community of athletes, working towards a shared dream, looking towards the same path of growth and development,” explained Ho in the organization’s press release.

Launched during a “casual” press conference held last Thursday, August 27, at Luna Specialty Coffee, the BVR heads aim to use their love and passion for the game to promote a culture of “cooperation instead of competition.”

The BVR has 3 programs planned: the Beach Royals on Tour Exhibition tournaments to “introduce, promote interest, and showcase the sport;” a Grassroots Academy to “reinforce, train, and develop talents and skills;” and a “Professional Beach Volleyball Circuit to “further strengthen the level of competition and to fuel a sustainable infrastructure of the sport in the country.”

With help from Alexa Micek and Kayla Tiongco-Williams, the BVR aims to target different comunities near beaches and make use of their abilities in beach volleyball as a way to “inspire the youth and its community.”

“We have countless beaches in the Philippines being an archipelagic state and it’s not too long before I see lines of volleyball nets propped up by the sand and people from all ages playing the sport,” Gervacio said.

The BVR is expected to be part of the festivities for the Clark International Airport’s 20th Anniversary on Sunday, August 30, where a beach volleyball court will be present.
